The Baldur’s Gate Scientific Society is an organization of like-minded sages, physicists, astronomers, biologists, chemists, artificers and other scientific professions, who banded together to progress “art free” scientific advancement. They oppose the reliance on magic in day-to-day life, construction and other “non-magical” activities, claiming that history shows magic is unreliable for such tasks in the long run, citing several large magical cataclysms as evidence.
The relative low impact of the Spell Plague on Baldur’s Gate serves them as proof to these claims, since Baldur’s Gate is indeed less reliant on magic for its daily operations and construction.

Since the end of the Spellplague, the society has gained much prestige with many patriar families, as well as many commoners. They are close allies of the church of Gond and the two organizations are known to work together on many projects.
